FastWalker FAQs

What is a FastWalker?

FastWalker is a movement, training platform, and community built around the athletic power of Race Walking.
Our mission: Awareness, Training, and Community — all centered around improving your level of fitness or getting you ready for an upcoming competitive walking challenge designed to push your athleticism, endurance, and speed to the next level.
We want to help you walk faster, train smarter, and connect with others.

Is walking really that effective for fitness?

Absolutely. Especially when you walk with high intensity like a Race Walker.
It delivers cardiovascular, muscular, and endurance benefits without the joint stress of running.
Olympic Race Walking is one of the most underrated athletic disciplines on Earth — and we’re here to change that.

HEALTH & FITNESS

What are the health benefits of Race Walking / FastWalking?

Delivers aerobic benefits equal to running
Builds stronger bones (unlike swimming/cycling) because it’s weight-bearing
Helps prevent osteopenia, osteoporosis, and osteoarthritis
Improves blood pressure, cholesterol, BMI, flexibility, and endurance
Boosts cardiovascular health and aerobic capacity
Reduces resting blood pressure over time
Supports better sleep, cognitive performance, and mental health
Puts healthy stress on your heart that builds long-term strength

How does Fast Walking or Race Walking compare to regular walking?

Casual walking = great for 10,000 steps, but limited in intensity
FastWalker-style walking or true Race Walking = intense, technique-driven, heart-pumping training
You’ll raise your heart rate, build strength, and walk away healthier
The difference? Fast Walking or Speed Walking or Power Walking and true Race Walking is athletic, not just recreational.

SPEED & PERFORMANCE

What speed is considered FastWalking?

Most people walk at 2–3 mph (20–30 min/miles)
FastWalker begins at 4 mph (15 min/miles)
Turning heads at 5 mph (12 min/miles)
Elite level: 10 min/mile or better = approaching Race Walking territory
Olympic Race Walkers: 6–7 min/mile for long distances
World Record Mile (Race Walk): 5:33 by Olympic athlete Tom Bosworth of Great Britain

Can walking really outperform running in some ways?

It's a smarter path to long-term fitness for many athletes
